Over $1 Million in Prevailing Wage Violations for 2008
The III FFC’s prevailing wage compliance efforts to recover unpaid wages and benefits for workers in 2008 were unprecedented. Findings of prevailing wage violations based on III FFC complaints totaled over $1,000,000 in unpaid wages and penalties. This amount includes several six-figure violations issued by the Illinois Department of Labor and violations issued by the U.S. Department of Labor under the federal Davis-Bacon Act.
The III FFC will continue to concentrate on prevailing wage compliance in 2009 and plans to expand its success into other areas, including OSHA compliance and employee misclassification. Ensuring compliance with prevailing wage laws and other laws pertaining to the construction industry is essential to maintaining a level playing field for contractors and workers. |
